International Day Of Mathematics

Led by the International Mathematical Union, the International Day of Mathematics (IDM) is a worldwide celebration scheduled for March 14 every year. The theme for 2021 is” Mathematics for a Better World”, an attempt to highlight the pivotal role that the subject plays in the creation of a better world for mankind. On Monday, 15th March 2021, the Ghana Society for Education Technology with support from ExxonMobil Exploration & Production Ghana (Deepwater) Limited, and her partners, GNPC and Goil Ghana, held a webinar to commemorate the event. The focus of the event was to educate and train Maths teachers in Ghana on the use of creative starters in their lessons.

The discussions were facilitated by an elite team of panelists well – versed in the field of mathematics in our Ghanaian education space; Dr. Thomas Tagoe (Neuroscientist & Lecturer, University of Ghana), Ms. Eunice Osei – Asibey (Lecturer, Ada College of Education), Mrs. Millicent Narh – Kert, Lecturer, University of Ghana), Mr. Reginald Quartey (STEM Department, NaCCA), Mr. Bubune Adih (Managing Partner, Misornu Technologies Limited).  Dr. Foster Ntow (Lecturer, University of Cape Coast, Ghana) was the moderator for the discussion.

The very educative and interesting webinar was well attended and also streamed live on Facebook as well. One resounding highlight noted from the event was that “promoting and making the teaching and learning of Mathematics, fun and interesting, requires a collective and collaborative effort from all stakeholders within the educational space”.

We are grateful to everyone who made this program possible and we send our warmest regards to our sponsors, partners, panelists, and all participants.
