In partnership with the Ghana Tech Lab and with support from Mastercard Foundation, Ministry of Communication and the World Bank, 131 Sunflower Hub engaged stakeholders on its premises on the 10th of June, 2022 under the theme “The Role of Data Science in Transforming the Local Economy for Job Creation and Economic Development.”
This meeting was preceded by a 3 week pre-tech Data Science and Analytics training of 20 women within and around the Adentan Municipality. The goal of the event was to outline the role data science plays in our ever changing world and also to gather feedback and strategies on ways to ensure that women develop the love for data science and pursue their dreams without hindrance.

The meeting began with a welcome address from 131 Sunflower Hub’s Hub Manager, Dennis Coleman, throwing the spotlight on the focus of the meeting and the Pathways to Sustainable Employment Program as well as the partnership with Ghana Tech Lab. He emphasized that 131 Sunflower Hub is ever ready to support and train individuals who are interested in Data Science.
There was a brief explanation of what data science is by Janet Anagli, the facilitator of the Data Science and Analytics training followed by a very engaging open forum discussion on what career opportunities are associated with it. The stakeholders brought up some challenges and solutions that come with the field and skills that are necessary to remain relevant in the industry.

The open forum, which was led by the 131 Sunflower Hub project lead, Ethel Ashong Nuga, was followed by focus group discussion in which the stakeholders were broken into their pillars to examine the skill gap, challenges, solutions and strategies as well as formulate policies to transform the local economy. The stakeholders, who came together from the Media pillar, Finance pillar, Marketing pillar, Government and Regulation pillar, Hub Support and Human Capital pooled together policies which will in the long run serve as a blueprint for achieving economic breakthroughs in data science.

Ernest Gavor, the founder of the hub, concluded the event by thanking the stakeholders for being present and for contributing to every part of the meeting. He reiterated that 131 Sunflower Hub is ever ready to support individuals who are interested in building themselves up.
